Sister Maya Soetoro

They share the same mother from Seattle, her father is Indonesian.

Brother Mark Obama

They share the same Kenyan father, his mother is Jewish from Boston.

Mother and grandparents who raised Barry Obama.

Age 6 at his mother's graduation from the University of Hawaii in 1967.

Age 18 at his graduation from Punahou School in 1979. 

Little Sister Maya

The sibling he grew up with.  Their mother named her after author Maya Angelou.

Christmas in Hawaii

An unbroken family tradition.  Spending Christmas in Hawaii visiting relatives and  seeing old buddies from high school.

Synopsis

Barack Obama: Made in Hawaii is a feature-length historical film that reveals how many of President Obama's policies were rooted in his personal history from Hawaii. The film has exclusive interviews with Obama's sister Maya, his brother Mark, his teachers, and childhood friends. This film is full of unknown details that lets the audience see and understand Barack Obama in an entirely new way. 

Filmmakers

Director Gloria Borland grew up in Honolulu around the same time as Barack Obama. She is biracial Black & Japanese. Julie Sloane edited two movies that were nominated for Academy Awards. Mike May won a National Emmy for producing a documentary for ESPN. Filmmakers  include: James Hall, Aaron Yamamoto, Imiloa Borland.

Growing up biracial in Honolulu.

Bruno Mars was born and raised in Honolulu.

Bruno Mars performed at the White House for a USO Fourth of July picnic in 2015.   Bruno's mother is Filipina and his father is Black-Puerto Rican.  

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was raised in Honolulu.

Dwayne Johnson was the Master of Ceremonies for a Christmas concert in 2014. Dwayne's mother is Samoan and his father is Black-Canadian.
